Phil 'The Power' Taylor kicked off the defence of his World Grand Prix title with a confident 2-0 defeat of Steve Beaton in last night's first round.
"The first round's always difficult but Steve didn't quite turn up tonight and I took advantage," said Taylor. "It was a difficult match and I kept Steve under pressure.
"I was steady but the second round's a longer format and I can relax a little bit now."
Adrian 'Jackpot' Lewis also joined Taylor in the last 16 after a close 2-1 defeat of Daryl Gurney which saw Lewis pounce on a missed bull hitting double ten to finally seal the win.
"I thought I'd thrown it away at the end, but luckily Daryl missed," said Lewis. "I didn't expect what he threw at me and I was shaking like a leaf - Daryl kept me under pressure, took out a couple of great finishes and hit some good shots."
World number 3 Adrian Lewis will now face Kevin Painter in the next round while Phil Taylor plays emerging star Andrew Gilding on Wednesday evening.
Target boys Stephen 'The Bullet' Bunting & Dave 'Chizzy' Chisnall are both in action tonight in their first round clashes as Bunting takes on Ronnie Baxter followed by Chizzy against Raymond van Barneveld. Good luck boys.
You can watch all of the World Grand Prix action tonight Live on Sky Sports 1 & Sky Sports 1HD from 7pm.
